My Life With Animals
My name is Lexie MacGregor, and I am a certified professional dog trainer (CPDT-KA), in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I started pet sitting in town during 2020, and as I gained more clients, I realized how helpful (especially for reactive pets) my services are. I hoped to work with reactive animals, since their minds need the most understanding, so I worked towards getting my training certification; but I will always accept all client types and temperaments. I received my Profesional Dog Training certification in April of 2024, after volunteering and apprenticing with other local dog training professionals over the past years.
I have always loved animals. I grew up with them all around my house, and became fond of each one. I had a plethora of pets, ranging from mice and hamsters, iguanas and bearded dragons, to several breeds of dogs and cats. I am 25 years old, and I have a total of 8 years of experience with animals.
I worked at the Medicine Hat SPCA for two years, and was exposed to a lot of reactive animals that needed special care and handling. Then, I worked at a boarding kennel in Medicine Hat, gaining more knowledge of all different types of dog breeds, along with some of their fears. After that, is when I ventured on my own, and began my pet sitting, then dog training journies.
My goals along side this pet sitting business are to create more trust between each owner and their pet(s), by ensuring the most consistent routine, comfortability, and understanding between the pet owner and their animal(s). My Knowledge
As time had gone on, I started realizing more and more that there is a huge need to understand the canine mind, so I’m dedicating my life to that. Currently, I am apprenticing at Sit, Stay, Come & Play; a dog training facility here in Med Hat, with two amazing trainers (Cheryl Ann Barrett and Ryan Kessell). There, they use force free, positive training methods, which is how I think all dogs should learn. I probably spend too much time reading and studying different books recommended to me, but it helps me more and more every day. I implement all the training that I know on each pet, to help them be the best version of themselves. For instance, rather than a simple walk, I help dogs gain confidence about the world around them, while making it easy for you to manage their excitement or anxieties at times. I am able to notice things that one might not be able to catch, so we can work together to make your bond with your dog even stronger. I hope to keep spreading knowledge to every pet owner I can, as it brings so much joy to everyone involved.
